- 2 medium onions (diced)
- 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3–4 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 (15 ounce) cans red kidney beans (drained, not rinsed)
- 2 cups broth (beef broth, chicken broth, vegetable broth) plus more as needed
- In a Dutch oven over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, then transfer to a plate.
- In the same pot, sauté diced onions until translucent. Add spices and tomato paste; mix well.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, return the browned beef to the pot, and add kidney beans along with broth.
