Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter for frosting
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese for frosting
  • Powdered sugar for frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Incorporate buttermilk, oil, green food coloring, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for approximately 28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. For frosting: Beat butter and cream cheese until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar and mix until smooth. Add vanilla and beat until fluffy.
  7. Assemble by stacking layers with frosting in between and covering the entire cake with remaining frosting.
