  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 6 hamburger buns, torn into pieces
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ketchup
  • sweet pickle relish
  • yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with diced onions until cooked through. Add minced garlic and seasonings; mix well.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine torn buns with melted butter and sesame seeds until coated.
  4. In a greased casserole dish, layer half the bun mixture, then top with the beef mixture and special sauce. Finish with remaining bun and cheddar cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and add slices of American cheese on top. Bake uncovered for another 10 minutes until bubbly.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving topped with shredded lettuce and chopped pickles.
