The chunky texture and rich apple flavor make it a standout choice for preserving seasonal bounty. Easy to prepare, this recipe is perfect for both beginners and seasoned cooks looking to capture fall’s flavors in every jar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 lbs chopped apples (about 16 cups diced)
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine diced apples, sugar, and lemon juice. Mix gently and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Place a small plate in the freezer to test gel consistency later.
  3. Strain the mixture but reserve the liquid. Boil the reserved liquid in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
  4. Add strained apple pieces to the boiling liquid and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Test gel consistency using the frozen plate; if it wrinkles when pushed, it’s ready.
  6. Fill sterilized jars with hot jam, leaving about 1/4-inch headspace.
  7. Process jars in a water bath canner for ten minutes, then cool completely.
